Stay at home cat (sadly)
Owns Katherine Came, IOF Communications Manager
Roxy is an elderly cat (turned 19 on August 1, 2025), who rules the home of Katherine Came. Whether found on the now cat-fur-and-other-stuff polluted couch in the living room, snuggled on Katherine’s bed, on top of the bookcases (after she’s had her monthly arthritis shot), or in the linen closet (don’t ask), Roxy manages the home with a steely claw.
Often spotted around Kerrisdale, riding in her cat stroller on the way to the vet’s, Roxy stops in to say hello to the folks at Starbuck’s (Katherine needs her tea), or Shoppers Drug Mart (the pharmacists LOVE her), or the library. She like to dine on Fancy Feast™, lamb, and her beloved raspberries, and is also a fan of catnip.

She has heterochromia! She reminds me of a lamb when we chop her fur off for the Summer.
Vicky loves her to bits! 😻

Stay at home pet
Owns Julia Mayer, IOF PhD Student
Maree was found on the side of the street with her sister Tay.
The two were taken into Julia’s foster care, where she quickly fell in love with them and proceeded to “foster-fail”.
Like her owner, Maree is obsessed with water!

Tay is not quite like any other cat.
After a challenging start to life, she has grown into an affectionate and playful cat full of unique quirks that never fail to charm her owners and her sister Maree.

Stay at home pet
Owns Jennifer Douglas, IOF Administration and Operations Manager
Is the boss of everything – including Montgomery, who is at least 50 lbs heavier.
Is favoured by the the 18 year old, and will allow him to call her, and deems him significant enough to follow.
Surprisingly, even though without any street smarts, escaped the house for less than four minutes, and brought home a lovely mouse.

Only very occasionally visits IOF
Owns Jennifer Douglas, IOF Administration and Operations Manager
- Loves everyone, and would go home with anyone.
- Does not retrieve…unless food related.
- Will request dinner, when overlord Millicent decides it is time.
- Monty would love to come to IOF, but would find it hard to settle down with all the interesting people to see, and smells to be smelled.

Stay at home pet
Owns Anna Luna Rossi, IOF MSc student
Nouky is a rescue! He was abandoned twice 🙁 before he became part of our family
He’s an amazing swimmer and loves to hop on my paddleboard
He owns a (pretty ugly) green bunny toy he’s so obssessed with he will sleep with it
He will try to herd us like sheep whenever we hike
He thinks he’s smaller than what he is so he will try to get on our lap all the time

RESCUED pet
Owns Chloe Ruiz, Research Assistant, Sea Around Us
Like Tequila, Mocha was also found in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico when Chloe was visiting family.
Mocha was a stray pup who hung out by a church where she was occasionally fed, but, was confirmed by the church night security guard who lived on the property that she had no owners and she was terrified of humans and wouldn’t let people pet her.
After gaining her trust by bringing her food and water everyday, Mocha finally let us take her home and foster her for a bit. Here is the picture of the day we brought her home in Mexico.
Through mutuals and the help of social media, we found Mocha a loving family in Vancouver who treats her like the princess she is! Now Mocha doesn’t go a single day without food, water and love.
