Fisheries Economics Research Unit works to develop interdisciplinary economic solutions to global, national, and local marine and freshwater management issues. It focuses on economic and policy analysis to mobilize researchers, students, and practitioners to advance resource management for the benefit of current and future generations, while maintaining ‘healthy’ ecosystems. So much of ‘economics’ is focused on the bottom line and FERU logomaking money for shareholders; FERU focused on the bottom line of ensuring that populations have food security, employment, and equity in the accessing the world’s resources into the distant future.

FERU is looking to attract development funding to support:

  • Connecting and working with fellow researchers in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), developing countries, more generally, Indigenous and coastal communities;
  • Communicating their findings to governments around the globe, as well as large international organizations (such as the UN, the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, IBPES, IUCN, IPCC, NGOs, and others; and
  • Supporting students in communicating their research results and innovations to fellow researchers, through conference and event attendance, and the public through various media campaigns.

Your gift will help the Fisheries Economics Research Unit (FERU) to continue to study how global climate and ocean changes affect the ecological, social, and economic vulnerabilities on marine ecosystems, biodiversity and fisheries.

How you can help

Your support of the Fisheries Economics Research Unit Fund will help advance resource management for the benefit of current and future generations, while maintaining ‘healthy’ ecosystems.
