As a student with UBC’s Institute for Oceans and Fisheries, you’re encouraged to create and maintain an active student profile on the Institute’s website at oceans.ubc.ca.
Gaining access to the IOF website (including creating your student profile on it) is a two-step process.
Step One
Become a user of UBC’s CMS system, which houses the IOF site.
If you’ve already signed up for a UBC CMS account (you might already be helping to run a UBC site, or writing a UBC Blog) you’re done, skip ahead to Step Two. If you haven’t signed up for a CMS account:
- Visit https://cms.ubc.ca
- Click on the “New User” button
- Sign in with your UBC Campus Wide Login (CWL)
- Follow any prompts
The UBC CMS enables members of the UBC community to request and create blogs and Word Press websites free of charge. In this case, we’re only using it to give you basic access to the IOF website.
Step Two
Once you have a UBC CMS account set up:
- Send your email address (the one tied to your CMS account) to IOF’s Communications Manager at k.came@oceans.ubc.ca
- She will send a welcome invitation email from the UBC IOF website, granting you access to your profile. (Please keep in mind this email comes from a central UBC server and isn’t ‘pretty’).
Step Three
Once you have accepted the invitation, you can create your profile!
When you are satisfied with what is there, click on the ‘Submit for review’ button, and let the IOF Communications Manager (k.came@oceans.ubc.ca) know that your profile is ready to go LIVE!
Once she makes your profile live, and accessible on the IOF site, it is your responsibility to keep it up to date.
* Yes, this is, unfortunately, a multi-step process for the initial creation of your profile. However, once it is created you can update it as much as you would like. *
