Colour variation in the #dogwhelk, Nucella lamellosa, on Calvert Island, BC. Nucella are important predators on rocky shores, and are a sentinel species for marine pollution. Their populations are recovering in Vancouver and other urban centres following restrictions on the use of tributyl tin as an antifouling paint on boat hulls.
