Research Interests

I am a quantitative fisheries scientist focusing on stock assessment methodology and management strategy evaluation. My graduate dissertation developed several novel mean length-based mortality estimators for data-limited fisheries.

For my post-doc, I’m interested in using management strategy evaluation to identify priorities for improving stock assessment and management practices. As a contributor to DLMtool and lead developer of MSEtool, I also develop software to facilitate analysis of current assessment practices and explore alternative modes of management. This research can help fishery management bodies more efficiently allocate their resources for sustainable management.

Outside of academia, I have participated in stock assessment meetings for the US National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). I have also contributed and reviewed at ICES working group meetings.
