How do Biological and Physical Processes Impact Life in the Ocean?

Dr. Mei Sato, an Assistant Scientist from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution — and former IOF Research Associate — will be giving a special seminar next week which you are welcome to attend.

Friday, Nov 28 at 2:00 pm in AERL 218

Talk: How do Biological and Physical Processes Impact Life in the Ocean?

Dr. Sato investigates biological–physical interactions in coastal ecosystems, examining how environmental factors shape animal behavior and distribution, and how these interactions influence trophic dynamics involving zooplankton, fish, and marine mammals. To address questions across diverse temporal and spatial scales, she employs active acoustics from multiple platforms—such as vessels, moorings, cabled observatories, and AUVs—integrated with net sampling and physical measurements.
