AERL Health & Safety

The Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries places the highest priority on the health and safety of our faculty, students, staff, and visitors.  Whether in the field, the lab, or the office, we recognize that there are risks involved in the work we do, and strive to ensure all aspects of our operations are carried out safely and responsibly.

Along with the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES), which shares the AERL building with IOF, the IOF operates a building-wide Local Safety Team (LST), responsible in part or in full for: inspecting working areas, investigating workplace accidents, organizing fire and earthquake drills, and liaising with the Faculty of Science’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

As the LST works to redevelop policies, procedures, protocols, rules and regulations associated with IOF people’s health and safety, they will be posted to this website.
